Now I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant of the church which is

at Cenchrea; that you receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and that you

help her in whatever matter she may have need of you; for she herself has also been a

benefactor of many, and of myself as well.

Romans 16:1-2

One of Paul’s final thoughts to the church is to encourage them to receive Phoebe with warmth and practical support. These verses offer insights into Christian community, servant leadership, and the ministry of women in the early church.

Paul wanted these Christians to recognize and honor faithful servants in their midst, to practice genuine hospitality, and to support the ministries of those laboring for the gospel. Likewise, we too should see every believer, regardless of gender or status, as gifted by God for the building up of the church.
