Listen, my sons, to the instruction of a father,
And pay attention so that you may gain understanding,
For I give you good teaching;
Do not abandon my instruction.
When I was a son to my father,
Tender and the only son in the sight of my mother.
Proverbs 4:1-3
The tradition of faith is a powerful means by which God preserves a remnant of His people
throughout redemptive history. It is the governing power in the minds of believing men and
women in every aspect of life. It is handed down from father to son, to grandson, and so on. We see an example of this in Paul’s second pastoral letter to Timothy, where the tradition of faith is passed from a grandmother (Lois) to a mother (Eunice) to a son (Timothy).
For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois
and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.
2 Timothy 1:5
