The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked,
But He blesses the home of the righteous.
Though He scoffs at the scoffers,
Yet He gives grace to the needy.
The wise will inherit honor,
But fools increase dishonor.
Proverbs 3:33-35
In this passage, Solomon explains to his son how God interacts with people. He describes two main groups: those favored by God and those not. God's actions are straightforward—He rewards the good and punishes the wrongdoers. This highlights the difference between what believers are expected to do (following the laws) and what God does for us through His kindness (the good news of the gospel).
Since both the Old and New Testaments teach that no one is truly good and that people often fail to seek God in the right way, through the wisdom of Solomon, everyone is under a curse. This means that we can't earn righteousness or goodness through our own efforts or actions. Instead, true righteousness comes from something beyond what we can do ourselves, which is found in the life and work of Jesus Christ.
