He taught me and said to me,

“Let your heart take hold of my words;

Keep my commandments and live;

Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding!

Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth.

Do not abandon her, and she will guard you;

Love her, and she will watch over you.

The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom;

And with all your possessions, acquire understanding.

Prize her, and she will exalt you;

She will honor you if you embrace her.

She will place on your head a garland of grace;

She will present you with a crown of beauty.”

Listen, my son, and accept my sayings,

And the years of your life will be many.

11  I have instructed you in the way of wisdom;

I have led you in upright paths.

12  When you walk, your steps will not be hampered;

And if you run, you will not stumble.

13  Take hold of instruction; do not let go.

Guard her, for she is your life.

Proverbs 4:4-13

The tradition of faith passed down through generations can be summarized as a pursuit of

wisdom. Wisdom is something that is quickly remembered by the young and remains

unforgettable with age. It acts as a proverbial outline, like a paint-by-numbers guide, introduced early in life and filled in as one grows.

Weekly Devotional - August 16

Drink water from your own well— share your love only with your wife. Why spill the water of your springs in the streets, having sex with just anyone? You should reserve it for yourselves.
